Pair of Italian Chandeliers

Pair of Italian Disc Chandeliers

Italy, 1960s

Brass discs on gilt metal frames with chain suspension

Ø 80 × H 140 cm (each)

Two mid-century chandeliers composed of overlapping brass discs arranged in spherical formations around central light sources. Each chandelier contains approximately 50-60 individual brass discs (varying sizes from 5-15 cm diameter) suspended on thin wires from gilt metal framework. The brass shows natural age patina ranging from golden to darker bronze tones. When illuminated, the discs create layered light patterns and cast dynamic shadows. Chain-suspended with canopy mounts for ceiling installation. Bulb sockets accommodate standard Edison base bulbs (likely E26/E27).

STYLE & ATTRIBUTION

Italian lighting design of the 1960s embraced sculptural metal forms, with workshops in Milan and Venice producing disc-based chandeliers for residential and commercial spaces. The overlapping disc construction technique was popularized by designers working for Arredoluce, Stilnovo, and smaller artisan workshops. This pair's scale and brass material indicate high-end residential commission rather than mass production. The design reflects period fascination with modular, kinetic forms that interact with light.
