About

Noto Atelier designs and produces bespoke furniture, lighting, and objets d'art in small editions. The studio was founded in 2014 and continues today, formerly known as Elan Atelier.

The work is defined by a quiet hand and a long view. Pieces are made by artisans the studio has worked with for over a decade, in materials chosen for their character and longevity: bronze, parchment, shagreen, etched gesso, and hand-finished wood. Each piece is produced in small editions, and most can be commissioned in a custom variation of scale, finish, COM, or COL.

The founder

Christopher Noto, Founder and Creative Director

Noto Atelier is led by Christopher Noto, who founded the studio in 2014 and continues to direct its design and production today. The studio’s point of view is built on classical proportion, restraint, and a long view of how a piece should live in a room over decades, not seasons.

Christopher works with a small studio team across New York and Paris, in close collaboration with a select group of foundries, ébénistes, and finishing ateliers, many of whom the studio has commissioned for over a decade. These relationships are deliberate, and the pace is slow by design.

He partners with interior designers, architects, and private clients on bespoke residential and hospitality commissions throughout the eastern United States, including New York, Boston, and Miami, and across Europe. Custom variations of scale, finish, material, and detail are part of nearly every project the studio takes on.

Christopher and Ruxandra lead the studio together, working with a small team across New York, Paris, and the south of France. The work spans bespoke residential interiors and commissioned hospitality programs for some of the world’s most considered hotels and resorts.

Process

Every piece begins as a drawing, in dialogue with the designer and the artisan who will make it. From there, the studio produces in small batches, often in editions of fewer than twenty, using lost-wax bronze casting, hand-applied parchment, prepared shagreen, etched gesso, and traditional wood-finishing techniques. Lead times vary by piece and are quoted at the project stage.

Geography

The studios are based in New York and Paris, with a viewing location by appointment in the south of France. The collection is represented across the Eastern United States and Europe.

Hospitality

The studio has produced furniture, lighting, and interior elements for some of the most considered hotels and resorts in the world, including projects for Aman, Four Seasons, GHM, Ritz-Carlton, Setai, Regent, Crown Metropol, and Gangtey Lodge, among others. A selection of these projects is at Hospitality Projects.
